The punk subculture emerged in the mid-1970s; in New York in 1974 and in the United Kingdom in 1976.Some suggest the name "punk" was borrowed from prison slang.Early punk had an abundance of antecedents and influences, and a subculture like a "bricolage" of almost every previous youth culture in the Western world since World War II, "stuck together with safety pins".
The punk subculture includes a diverse and widely known array of music, ideologies, fashion, and other forms of expression, visual art, dance, literature, and film. Largely characterised by anti-establishment views, the promotion of individual freedom, and the DIY ethics, the culture originated from punk rock.
The punk ethos is primarily made up of beliefs such as non-conformity, anti-capitalism, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, a do-it-yourself ethic, anti-consumerist, anti-corporate greed, direct action, and not "selling out".
The punk subculture is centered on a loud, aggressive genre of rock music called punk rock, usually played by bands consisting of a vocalist, one or two electric guitarists, an electric bassist, and a drummer.
The New York City punk rock scene
arose from a subcultural underground promoted by artists, reporters, musicians, and a wide variety of non-mainstream enthusiasts. The Velvet Underground's harsh and experimental yet often melodic sound in the mid to late-1960s, much of it relating to transgressive media work by visual artist Andy Warhol, is credited for influencing 1970s bands such as the New York Dolls, the Stooges, and the Ramones.

Early punks occasionally wore clothes displaying a swastika for shock value; Vivienne Westwood's DESTROY shirt
featured an upside-down crucified Jesus and a swastika, notably worn by members of the Sex Pistols

The Sex Pistols
are an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975. Although their initial career lasted just two and a half years, they became culturally influential in popular music. The band initiated the punk movement in the United Kingdom and later inspired many punk, post-punk and alternative rock musicians, while their clothing and hairstyles were a significant influence on the early punk image.
The Sex Pistols' first line-up consisted of vocalist Johnny Rotten (byname of John Lydon), guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock, with Matlock replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Under the management of Malcolm McLaren, the band gained widespread attention from British press after swearing live on-air during a December 1976 television interview. Their May 1977 single "God Save the Queen", which described the monarchy as a "fascist regime", was released to coincide with national celebrations for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The song was promptly banned from being played by the BBC and by nearly every independent radio station in Britain, making it the most censored record in British history.
The Sex Pistols have been recognised as a highly influential band. In 2006, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame although, true to their image, they refused to attend the ceremony, with Rotten referring to the museum as "a piss stain".

The Sex Pistols were never meant to be more than a nine-month wonder, a cheap vehicle for some fast money, a few laughs, a touch of the old épater la bourgeoisie.
It may also be that in the mind of their chief terrorist and propagandist, anarchist veteran ... and Situational artist McLaren, the Sex Pistols were meant to be a force that would set the world on its ear ... and finally unite music and politics. The Sex Pistols were all of these things.
Tommy Dollar and the Sex Pistols
Tommy ( Born in Stockholm Sweden as Thomas Dellert-Bergh ) came from a music and art family and was one of the very first young boys to pick up the newly created movement called Punk Rock. he was at the time living in London where he hanged out with all the other Punks in places like The World's End and its Westwood Mc Learens Boutique store ( Let it Rock later SEX later Seditionaries )
He became friends with Westwood, and Sid Vicious ( )
And went to all the many early concerts at the 100 Club and
In August of 1977 Sex Pistols came to Stockholm’
And naturally contacted Tommy.
They came to hang out for two days in his Punk Stored titled “Suicide “ Tomy let them take anything they wanted in the store that was not originally crated for profit but as an Anarchistic statement and art project. Therefore the name.
Johnny and Sid and Paul dressed up in the Punk outfits , ( shirts and T-Shirts and shoes and Punk Jewelry ) Tommy had designed and they all used them on stage at the “Kårhuset “ Concert and in PR photos taken at the Scantic Hotel.
For several days they hanged out with Tommy in Stockholm at Club parties and in Luxury Restaurants aswell as his Suicide store.
